Remembering the Farm

Every so often, an amazing opportunity comes along. This photography shoot was just that kind of special for me and this entire beautiful family. We spent a some what cold morning exploring their family farm near Burton, Ohio. This session was extremely emotional and important for the family as they were preparing to sell this farm that had been in their family for more than 80 years. I felt honored to be asked to capture some moments and memories in this place.

Given the moody gray skies, the rich textures of the grounds, barns, silos and houses, I felt drawn to edit in black and white for many images. The light was quite beautiful as well and the colors of the family members also stand out in some images. I really enjoy the complement of the different images as a collection and I think it represents the emotion of the day quite well.

It is so wonderful to freeze time in the form of photographs and I hope these images help ease the transition for this lovely family. How have you marked transitions and serious changes in your life? Do photographs play an important role in those times? You can also see more images from this session on Facebook.
