Elsie joins her family!

On a cold January day, I headed over to Cleveland Heights to photograph the brand new baby, Elsie Rose. After much anticipation, she joined her family – mom, dad, big brother, and big sister. She is a beautiful baby girl and she has brought so much joy to this sweet family. I was honored to spend time with this bunch and to be welcomed into their home so soon after Elsie came home from the hospital.

I adore family sessions like this one where everyone is comfortable in their own home and I simply document their connections as a family and their new found love for this tiny babe. We spent time in the family’s living room, Elsie’s new nursery and we took time for some cuddles on mom & dad’s bed. Could these images be any sweeter or more filled with love?

Three Ballerinas

On one lovely Saturday in July, I had the pleasure of photographing 3 little ballerinas with their mom & dad. They selected Wade Oval in front of the Cleveland Museum of Art for their session and we had a great time exploring the steps, fountains, lake, and we even found some bunnies. The girls are no stranger to my camera since I have photographed them a couple times in the last few years.

It is always wonderful to photograph families, especially when I can truly capture how they interact with each other. What is your favorite part about your family, whether it’s your own kids or your siblings? Dancing is obviously part of how this sweet family has fun!

The Twirling Sisters Return

Well, there’s no good reason and there are so many reasons why this wasn’t posted sooner. It’s been more than 6 months since this fantastic family session, but I’m happy to share it now. I’ve known this family for several years and have had the pleasure of photographing them as their daughters have grown from babies to young ladies. I love their laid back vibe and how they are willing to brave some cold temps in the name of great photography. These first few were taken on the steps of the Cleveland Museum of Art, the rest were taken inside. We had a blast then and we will again soon!

Have you been to the art museum lately? What is your favorite exhibit?

Four generations together

There is no doubt that I love doing what I do, but this session re-affirmed by passion for photographing families. I was asked to photograph four generations of one family and I had the most incredible time with this group. I spent a couple hours with them getting a glimpse into their family dynamic and relationships. I met the great-grandparents – Katie, Ray & Jane, grandparents – Jeff & Cathy, parents – Chris, Summer, Andy & Maggie, and the adorable grandkids – Lola, Remy & Max. When Kathy asked me to do the session, I didn’t hesitate for a moment. I already knew Andy, Maggie and Max from his newborn session (and Andy happens to work with my husband). I also hail from a large family myself so I was excited to capture the relationships of another family.

During our time together, we captured moments between each part of the family. Moms, Dads and kiddos, grandparents and kiddos, great-grandparents and kiddos, the women of the family, the men of the family and every other wonderful combination. The images that resulted truly capture the love in this family. Moments like these don’t last forever and I’m so happy they were able to have some memories frozen in the form of these photographs.

What photographs do you treasure the most? Do you have images that help you remember favorite times with your family or friends? After the loss of my Grandad, I hold photographs of him so dear and they are all over my home.

A trio of girls romping in the leaves

On a cold, snowy day in Cleveland it’s refreshing to look back at photographs from a beautiful fall day in October. The leaves, the light, the lack of scarves and coats, adds up to an entirely different feeling than winter. I last had the pleasure of photographing this sweet family when they were awaiting the arrival of baby girl #3, Mylah Elizabeth. We used this session to capture some 1 year old portraits of Mylah as well as the two older girls, Aliyah (now 3 years old), and Selah (age 5). I think it’s safe to say we had a blast playing in the leaves and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon.

What is your favorite way to capture the fall colors? Have you been thinking about the seasons to come while we’re in the midst of winter?

Three gorgeous sisters

You may remember these darling girls from their first appearance on my site. This fall it was time to capture some sweet moments with this trio of girls once again. It’s amazing how quickly they changed and how their personalities have developed even more since I last saw them. The girls took little time warming up to me and showed some beautiful smiles right off the bat.

This unique family chose to have our session at their house again and I loved it for the comfort factor and because they wanted to show a few moments from their real life. They busted out their current favorite game, Uno, and included a round in some of the photographs.

What is your favorite activity or game to play with your family? Did you spend time soaking up those moments over the recent holidays?

Fall light and 2 little girls

I’m behind on posting fall sessions, but winter may be a good time to look back on the beautiful leaves and colors of fall. Here are some images from a family photo session that was done in late October. The weather was starting to turn cool here in Cleveland, but it was still warm enough to run around outside for awhile. These two little blondies were adorable and led us into some fun shots. I love letting the kids lead the way and show us what they want to do. That process makes a few posed images easier to get and even more natural.

Even though it’s over, what was your favorite part about fall in Cleveland or any other fine city in 2011?

Sisters in the leaves

October in Cleveland is one of the absolute best times of the year. All month long the leaves change and fall to the ground. The light in the evenings is generally beautiful and we took advantage of that in a Friday session. I often recommend shooting at clients’ homes to allow children to be most comfortable and this was true for a couple little girls in Strongsville. We had a great time running around their yard and having fun until the sun started to set. Take a look at the images and enjoy the last few moments of fall this year.

What is your favorite autumn activity to do with young kids? I love a good afternoon spent apple picking.

Awaiting a new sister

My dear friends moved up to Cleveland just a few months ago and are now expecting their third baby girl in a month. We wanted to capture this period of time before she is born, so we gathered the family at Lakewood Park for a late afternoon photography session. After we talked through some shot preferences we started the fun game of corralling the two little girls who are 20 months and 4 years old. We may have used some bribery tactics to accomplish our mission, but there was a lot of fun involved in the process as well.

Do you remember trying on hats that were too big? Or blowing dandelion seeds just to watch them scatter?

2 girls and a boy

That’s exactly what my family looked like growing up, well maybe not exactly. My sister and I weren’t twins with gorgeous red hair and our brother is the baby of the family, not the leader of the pack. I had the opportunity to steal a few shots of the twin girls last fall when we were all apple picking, and I was certainly hoping to get a chance to spend more time photographing the whole crew.

We ventured out to Rocky River Park – a perfect setting – and started with some family group shots. We nailed down a few stunners in the first moments and then things got interesting. The little man decided it was his job to get the family laughing and he did it flawlessly. His perfect sense of humor made for some truly beautiful moments between this family and that’s my favorite part of this job. If I’ve recorded the joy and laughter between family members, then the story has been told and the memories have been captured.
